When I was born I heard the most lovely sound I could imagine. The radio played Mozart.
I was a baby that smiled right away and I never stopped smiling and I smile more and more when I heard the sound of Mozart.

Yes I am already dedicated to the musici from the time when I was born.
Later the fascination for the man came.
All those years I gathered information, read books, fell in love with other music too but never lost sight of Mozart.

In 2003 I decided I was ready to make a painting of him.
And so I did.
I went to Salzburg and met a lovely lady, she happens to be from the old families of Salzburg.
The name is also found in Mozarts correspondence and also that of Nannerl.
Theresia Fiala who believed in me gave me the opportunity to display this portrait.
I had an exhibition in the Mozarts Geburtshaus !
It would be for about 2 months but it became a year and a half !

This great year 2006, the Mozart year, I had the urge to paint him again for I woke up one morning and saw him clearly being on horseback....
I first started to paint him in miniature as for an excercise.

Now the bigger work had to start !
But before I started I wanted something different and I imagined his head turning.
I finished the first one and the second and wanted to make use of the portrait I already painted.
I had to change it for it had to match the new ones.
And so this triptych was born.
Rest me to say that the three faces have all the same size, this doesn't show on this display. That means that the painting in the middle is a lot bigger.

I made use of the excisting portraits of Joseph Lange and the drawing of Dorothea Stock.
As a lot of painters do, for no one knows ho Mozart really looked like. His wife Constanze said that he looked most like the painting of Josef and others said he looked most like Dorothea her drawing.
Everyone has his own imagination....

He is a person I feel comfortable with and it looks as if he is always around me and I am using his music during the long sessions of painting. If you want to read more about Mozart and I, go to www.mozartian.com you will find there The Chronicles of a Modern-Day Mozartian And of course there a lots of books about Mozart. Also in Dutch.
